The Plastic Reconstructive and Regenerative Surgery (PRRS) is conceived as a new independent international journal designed to share the most actual knowledge and research in plastic surgery, encompassing the areas of microsurgery, transplant surgery, reconstructive, regenerative and aesthetic surgery. The PRRS from the first June 2022 issue becomes the official organ of the Italian Society of Microsurgery (SIM) and of the Italian Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (SICPRE). The “official organ” designation formally states the personal and professional solid relationship developed over the years by the chief editors of the Journal with two of the most important Italian surgery societies and their leaders. The SICPRE, the eldest and most representative Association of Italian Plastic surgeons, from more than 80 years has dedicated its activity to the development of plastic surgery, with educational and training programs, disseminating the best and most up-to-date scientific information related to different aspects of the specialty and promoting awareness regarding security in plastic surgery. The Italian Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery has also been recognized by the Italian Ministry of Health as the reference authority for the prevention and safety in plastic surgery. As editors of the Journal, we are proud to declare officially and publicly our commitment to SICPRE mission, as the result of a successful professional alliance which has been going on for a long time and that will strengthen with this joint venture. In the vision of merging the most actual advancements in the field of plastic surgery and owing to our interest and work in reconstructive microsurgery, we are glad to announce that PRRS will also be the official organ of the Italian Society of Microsurgery. The Society was founded in 1981 by a group of pioneers in the field with the aim of promoting and advancing the microsurgical techniques in Italy. Today, the SIM has a fundamental role in the development of microsurgery, providing training programs for its members and organizing periodically the National Congress and numerous symposia. The SIM is open to embrace the experience and work of many microsurgeons who work in different fields of reconstructive microsurgery, including plastic surgery, orthopaedic surgery, maxillo-facial surgery, otolaryngology, general surgery and neurosurgery. As editors of the PRRS, we’re glad to collaborate with the Society in the dissemination of clinical and experimental microsurgical innovations devoting to the field microsurgical reconstruction dedicated sections of the Journal. This collaboration has been sought by the editors of the Journal as well as by the associated societies, reflecting the joint vision of promoting the advancement of plastic surgery as whole. The PRRS Journal will benefit from the affiliation of two of the main Italian institutions operating in the field of aesthetics, the Italian Society of Aesthetic Medicine (SIME) and the Italian Association of Aesthetic Plastic surgery (AICPE). Through the partnership with SIME and AICPE, the editors want to reiterate the desire to overcome the tendency towards specialization and sub-specialization and fill the gap between the aesthetic and reconstructive fields, as well as between medical and surgical sciences. In this respect, PRRS will deal with all aspects of reconstructive and aesthetic surgery and of regenerative and aesthetic medicine through nine study sections entitled Breast Oncology, Breast Reconstruction, Aesthetic, Regenerative, Reconstructive, Reconstructive Head and Neck, Hand/Peripheral nerve, Craniofacial/Paediatric and Research. The collaboration of Plastic Reconstructive and Regenerative Surgery Journal with the Italian Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, the Italian Society of Microsurgery, the Italian Society of Aesthetic Medicine and the Italian Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reflects a shared commitment to serve the international community of experts in the field, providing the most up-to-date experimental and clinical innovations and promoting the advancement of plastic surgery and related disciplines.
